Traffic in the City

This month, in Kindergarten, we have discovered the “trafficy” world of transport. How do we get to school? work? the park?
Kindergarten created a city out of shapes and the colours black and white.
The children have also started working on their Christmas play and artwork.
The Sala Umberto theatre company came to school…we got to see “Rapunzel”. It was great!

Fall into Winter with Grade 2

We are celebrating the arrival of winter by reading “The Mitten” by Jan Brett along with other great stories.
We have begun our unit on place value in math. We will soon be working on dictionary skills and will learn how to use guide words.
Please encourage your child to use a dictionary at home when possible to practice these skills.

Being Thankful

This month Grade 1 made turkeys. We talked about the meaning of Thanksgiving.
We are almost finished with Unit 1 of our reading series. We’ve used number lines, counting back and on to solve number sentences.
We’ve just finished learning about related facts.

Magical descriptions and three-digit addition and subtraction

This month Grade 3 have been delving into the magical world of Harry Potter to learn how to describe characters. We have picked out interesting verbs and put them in the past.
Grade 3 will now prepare for the writing competition…good luck!
We have been mastering three-digit addition and subtraction in maths.

Christmas is Coming!!!

Next week we’ll be putting up our BIG Christmas tree and decorating it together.
We’ve been writing personal narratives in preparation for the writing competition and are going to tell our anecdotes as part of oral language grade.
In math we are learning more about geometry for example “How to measure angles”. Math can be fun!
We are nearly finished “Around the World in Eighty Days” and will plan our own trip -pole to pole- using modern forms of transport and communication, comparing them with more traditional means.

Moving Forward

In the month of October, hard work and progress were common motifs in all subjects.
Students in grade 6 continued to explore life in the Middle Ages in history. Paleolithic and Neolithic art captured their imagination in art history. Graphing, geometry and physical and chemical changes are just a few of the areas covered in geography, science and math.
A very productive group indeed!!

Grade 4 had a fantastic Halloween! We collaborated with grade 5 to raise money for an art day this term, and so we homebaked some spooky cakes and decorated them with “interesting” coloured icing. Then we sold slices to hungry middle school pupils at break time.
After that we lit our glowing Halloween lanterns in the dark and listened to a scary story! See the photos and you’ll agree the lanterns looked great.

Grade 7 News

The Grade 7 class enjoyed an inspiring trip to the Lippi and Botticelli art exhibit at the end of October.
They are currently studying positive and negative integers in math and are learning about continental drift in science.
The next exciting unit on earthquakes and volcanoes will allow the students to explore the complex Italian territory and learn how to locate the epicenter of an earthquake on a map.
The class is also very enthusiastic about the upcoming student assembly that will be presented by grade 7- In preparation is an amazing surprise!

Communicate with Grade 5!

Our new class theme is “Communication” and we have begun reading “Around the World in 80 Days” by Verne to implement the idea.
In art, our clay animals are coming along nicely, and we are looking forward to a visiting English artist on the 17th of November.
We raised €90 euros from the Halloween cake sale- and what great fun we had!
